The Hévíz Traditional Cure certification system was established by the town of Hévíz in 2015. The initiative aims to officially accredit service providers that offer classic therapies based on the local medicinal thermal water. The rigorous professional criteria were developed by a committee of renowned physicians.
Strict Criteria for Maximum Quality
To obtain the trademark, institutions must undergo a comprehensive review every two years. A fundamental requirement for certification is full compliance with all seven of the following criteria:
- Certified medicinal-water bathing: The institution has its own thermal pool supplied with Hévíz medicinal water.
- Regulated pool temperature: The water temperature is between 25 and 38 °C, while bathing time is determined by a medical specialist as part of an individually tailored treatment plan.
- Access to the Lake Bath: Patients are provided with the opportunity to bathe in the Hévíz medicinal lake, including at an external location if necessary.
- Hévíz mud treatments: Hévíz medicinal mud packs or mud baths are available on site.
- Precisely controlled mud packs: The temperature of the mud may not exceed 42 °C, and the duration of the treatment is also determined by a medical specialist.
- Weight-bath therapy: The institution offers the traditional weight-bath treatment among its services.
- Controlled weight-bath parameters: The pool water is maintained at 34–36 °C; the duration of the treatment, the amount and distribution of the weights, and the suspension points are prescribed by a medical specialist.
The purpose of the strict inspection process is to ensure that guests can be confident that whichever accredited facility they choose, they will receive the same outstanding and consistent level of quality. In this way, the fundamental requirements of Hévíz therapeutic medicine—with a history spanning more than 220 years and now recognised as a Hungarikum—are guaranteed at every certified service provider.
Expert Audits and the Award Recipients
The 2026 certification process was coordinated by Hévízi Turisztikai Nonprofit Kft., the organisation responsible for managing the trademark. On-site audits were carried out by an expert committee consisting of renowned chief rheumatologists: Dr Gábor Domokos (Hévíz St Andrew Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases and Spa), Dr Veronika Moll (Hotel Európa Fit), and Dr Géza Kurth (NaturMed Hotel Carbona).
The following nine institutions successfully met the requirements of this year’s accreditation and are therefore entitled to use the trademark until 2028:

- Észak-pesti Centrumkórház – Honvédkórház Hévízi Rehabilitációs Intézete
- Hévízi Szent András Reumakórház és Gyógyfürdő
- Hotel Európa Fit
- Hunguest Hotel Helios
- Kolping Hotel Spa & Family Resort
- NaturMed Hotel Carbona Health Spa
- Le Primore Hotel & Spa
The certificates were presented by municipal representative Henriette Mörkné Győrvári and Ildikó Lancz, Managing Director of Hévízi Turisztikai Nonprofit Kft., in the conference hall of the Lake Bath.
“One of Hévíz’s most important assets is its 220-year-old tradition of therapeutic medicine. It is of paramount importance that we preserve this heritage and pass it on to future generations, as the Hévíz Traditional Cure can represent not only healing but also prevention and the promise of a better, healthier life. It is an important product through which the town can showcase its uniqueness on international markets as well,” Ildikó Lancz emphasised in her welcome address, while also thanking the partners for their close cooperation and high-quality professional contribution.
We are very proud that, just like Lake Hévíz itself, the Hévíz Traditional Cure has been recognised as a Hungarikum since 2015.
